~ Get Your Purse, We're Going Shopping ~

Today I found myself telling a friend that if I could have everything delivered to me , I probably would . Maybe it's the holidays or maybe it is just the curse of one Wal-mart in town , but it seems like shopping , groceries, &  running errands  is no longer as enjoyable as it use to be.....it's actually more like the "Hunger Games" . I half expect the store announcer to come over the intercom and welcome me as a tribute . Today as I caught my breath , I had the idea that others may feel this way too . I then realized that with so many friends running home/online businesses this is the perfect opportunity to promote/brag on them , as well as help you get your "gettin's done".....ya know with out you having to become a tribute .

I am blessed to know some rather amazing women. This is just a few who along with being wives, mothers, students , active members of their churches , etc. also run at home/online businesses. If you are exhausted from the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping let me recommend these ladies and their products/services to you for some easy at home shopping/planning. I mean, lets be real, who doesn't wanna shop while wearing their pajama's ?!

Said in a "Effie" accent.....WELCOME TO THE SHOPPING GAMES !!! May the discounts, coupons and possibility of free shipping be ever in your favor .

MARY KAY - Ashleigh Givens
I will start with what most of us start with each day.....MAKE UP!!! One of my most favorite people Ashleigh Givens is a Mary Kay representative. She is a awesome wife , mother , friend , and Mary Kay Rep !!! You can read her blog , Givensmeabreak here , or you can contact her via e-mail Ashleigh.givens10@gmail.com for Mary Kay questions, orders, etc. that you may have . I have been the benefactor of some of her Mary Kay goodies and let me tell you, it is some good stuff . I also grew up with most of the women in my family using Mary Kay . So, with that said I can recommend this to you with surety that you will enjoy their product . Ashleigh  is also a joy to work with/order from !

Re-Post ~ A Fashionable Valentines 2014 ~

What I'd Like to Wear This Valentines .
Vera Wang #NYFW2014 #Fall2014
#youbugme

When asked , "Where is your happy place ?" the answer is usually , "my closet" . So, I find it no coincidence that New York Fashion Week and Valentines Day fall in the same week . Valentine dates tend to be the dates that everyone works especially hard at looking snazzy for . And the week leading to it every one is looking their best in hopes of snagging a Valentine date ! ;-)  As I gathered pictures for this post I realized that I have the habit of wearing my heart on my sleeve.....feet , wrist , waist , & ears.
Shoes -rue21 /Belt - Torrid

My previous posts Thinking of You , Girlfriends & Wives , & Boyfriends & Husbands all had the purpose of helping you plan the perfect gift , date or activity . With todays post I would love to help you pick the perfect outfit !! While I tend to be a function over fashion in my day to day dress I know that there is nothing quiet like getting dolled up . My opinion on clothing choices is different than that of most fashion followers . Mine being if you aren't comfortable in what you're wearing , it isn't worth wearing . Ever see a girl who doesn't know how to walk in heels , walk in heels ? BABY DEER !!! Point made . Keep that in mind as you dress for your Valentines day , what makes you comfortable also makes you HOTTT!!! We are our hottest when confident and content in what we are wearing (ex. see baby deer/heels sentence above . I tried to find a image of a fawn in high heels and couldn't find one. I'm sorry.)

Even if you do not have a drawer full of Valentine themed clothing like I do , I am sure that you can borrow or purchase a little SOMETHING to help you walk the halls of your office/school like they're your runway .Just because February 14th will be oozing with pink , red and white doesn't mean that it has to be everyone's' dress code for the day . I personally am drawn to this black "love" sweater from Old Navy .  I purchased it several winters ago , but I am confident that they have something Valentine focused on their racks or online this year like the  "Follow Your Heart" sweater found at THIS link . One of the fun things about shopping at Old Navy is that they often have outfits for the entire family . So, if you are wanting to do a Valentine family , engagement or matchy-matchy date night photo they usually have coordinating items for everyone and at a reasonable price . My vote , if you go with the cute sweater , pair it with a skirt , tights and boots/heels .  If you aren't a skirt kind of girl then I suggest the sweater , pick a complementing under shirt that is several inches longer than the sweater , skinny jeans and once again boots/heels . (you may do minimum jewelry if you are expecting some bling as a V-Day gift) . I would do boots with either outfit simply because of the winter weather headed my way .
Sweater- Old Navy
If you aren't really in a place or mood to splatter the word "LOVE" across your chest then you may be more incline to have subtle hints of the day as part of your wardrobe . Little glistening baubles on your ears , neck or wrist always tend to make a day better . Or if you plan on spending the day inside (considering the impending snowpocalypse I very well may) you can sport some Valentine sweats to keep you warm and cozy .
Earrings - Target/Bracelet - Torrid / Sweats -Victoria Secret
Two of my favorite things - Love & Pink !

P.S. Sweats can be cutesy too ! Add a hoodie like THIS ONE also from Victoria Secret and you are ready for a cozy night in with your besties or workin' it out in the gym . (Yes, I know VS sells more than sweats....that's not what this post is about , perv! :-)  If you need me to pick out your undergarments then the problem is bigger than a Valentine series of posts can solve . ) Now, looking for something to tote your dolla dolla bills in or maybe just your lip gloss ?! Try this oh so sweet , "Sweetheart Coin Purse" by Vera Bradley . It would make a cute addition to any bag . It also has a key ring and clip on it making it handy to attach to your key fob , belt loop or bracelet insuring you won't lose it while out on the town ! One of my favorite out on the town type clutches has a bracelet attached to it and I think it is the BEST IDEA EVER for out on the town night owls .

No matter what your Valentine plans are or your personal style is , there can always be a way to , in the wise words of Tim Gunn , "Make It Work!" . I did not address all your outfit options , but my goal was to get you thinking about YOUR closet , jewelry box and shoe rack as you plan for Valentines .  I hope that this post was the bright spot in your mid-week slump . I can't wait to see what you wear this Valentines Day !! Please report back with photo's and comments in the comment section !!

Re-Post ~ Thinking of You ~ Valentines 2014

With the impending snowpocalypse I
found this image rather fitting .

Valentines is a bit of a different "holiday" in my way of thinking . There are a few varied stories as to where and exactly how the yearly celebration began , but the majority of them go back to St. Valentine . The story goes that St. Valentine a priest in Rome was executed for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry as well as for ministering to Christians who at the time were under persecution from the Roman Empire . Since his execution and over the years the way in which people acknowledge the holiday has changed . Some religions see it as a feast day while others have removed it from the calendar all together . No matter where you picked up your Valentines traditions and no matter how you choose to celebrate I would hope that the origin would be what rings true for all of us . One person took some time out of their plans (actually risking their life) in order to bring love and relief to a few others .

When I think on Valentines I immediately go to the idea of a feeling . The feeling of knowing that you are loved , thought about and cared for . As I wrote in this blog post from several days ago , most are not concerned with the financial price of something , but more so the care and thought that was put into it . It's the look on someone's face as they read the card attached to their flowers , the anticipation as they unwrap a carefully wrapped gift , or the excitement as one plans for someone else . One of my strongest love languages is gifts , so the giving and receiving of a gift means so much more to me than a dent in the wallet . As you approach this holiday of LOVE take a moment to truly consider the one you are celebrating whether it be a boy/girl friend , husband/wife or simply an amazing friendship instead of just doing what everyone else does or what you think you are "suppose" to do for Valentines Day .

I would also challenge you to perhaps think out side the box as you plan and prepare . In my Valentines post to the "girlfriends & wives " , I suggested a perhaps unorthodox way of celebrating what is normally considered a "couples" holiday . How about doing something for someone(s) out side of your relationship ? A single mom ? A couple that could desperately use a date night ? A singleton who you know may be struggling with this overwhelming holiday ? What if as a couple you took the day to share your love with other people (in a non-nauseating ooey gooey lets hold hands on the porch kind of way ) , but in a be a blessing kind of way . By the way I also think this is a great idea for all the singletons out there . I mean , the way I see it you have a choice , walk around with a dark cloud over your head and dark heart in your chest all day OR step outside of your current circumstance (which could change at any minute BTW ) and focus all that energy on helping someone else feel a little better about the day .

When I say "mix tape" I realize it's a burn CD these days .
#notthatold #oldschoolslang

Here are just a few ideas to help get your creative process started . You all know I am a HUGE FAN of SWEET MIX TAPES !!!! I am a music lover in every respect so , for me this is a home run idea . Perhaps you could make a "boys suck" mix tape for a single or newly single girlfriend (yes, I have received one of these and in turn have made them for others.....they help. #truestory ) . If you have a lot of "couple" friends like I do you could make a super cute slow jams mix tape that may inspire them to take a romantic drive or slow dance in the kitchen ( yes, I find both of those things extremely ADORBSSS ) or you could offer to baby sit so they can have a date . Then there is always FOOD ! I mentioned it in the post called " boyfriends & husbands "  as a gift idea from their gf or wifey , but lets be real for most people food by way of a baked good , candy  , meal or gift card are ALWAYS good ideas . I also believe in small tokens of affection , believe it or not ! Today I came across one of the best ones ever at the Dollar Tree . Yes, the Dollar Tree and I think it would be fun to give to almost anyone .
Who doesn't love a diamond with the caption ,
"The Bigger The Better " ?!

Whatever you choose to do this Valentines I wish you lots of love and even a few surprises !! Please feel free to report back to me in the comment section !!

Re-Post ~ Girlfriends & Wives ~ Valentines 2014

Ladies - Let us not put all the pressure of Valentines Day just on the guys . Yes, it is kinda thought of as a holiday for females . I mean at least that is what the advertisers would have us believe , but do not neglect the idea of doing something special for your man . Now, not being a dude I can not say 100% that some of our ideals hold true for them as they do us . i.e. it's the thought that counts . However , I am going to write this with that idea in mind , based off of my observations of the male species. In case you missed it I wrote yesterday on date and gift ideas to help out the "boyfriends & husbands" . You can read that link for some ideas of your own too !!

In my observations guys tend to be much more simple in their idea of romance or quality time . In a effort to keep this "G" rated I am going to skip over some of the more obvious ideas that one might have when deciding what to plan for her husband on Valentines day . I'll just expect that you already have that figured out . Now for those of you that have boyfriends or just a special fella you are wanting to celebrate on Valentines I am hoping to provide you with some fun ideas . Starting with the literal slam dunk....

SPORTING EVENTS !! The majority of my guy friends thoroughly enjoy a good baseball game and at this point you can't swing a bat and not find one in your city or close to it . When I lived in Chattanooga you could get a ticket to the Lookouts for as low as $8.00 , it was called a Wednesday lunch ticket . It included the seat, a hot dog and soda . Check your hubs or bfs fave teams web page for deals like these . I am pretty sure a season pass/tickets would be a "home run" , if you will . :-) Don't forget all the other sports more than likely offer these kinds of deals also . BONUS POINTS: Join him at a few of these games ! He will like that you are taking interest in something he is interested in and that all the quality time spent doesn't have to be just on your terms .

MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION - No, not that kind of magazine subscription !! A sports focused magazine would more than likely be a winner . If your special guy isn't really all that into sports there are also men's fashion , political , travel , and what not out there . If you aren't exactly sure which one would be the right one then take a moment the next time you are at his place to look around . NOT NOSE AROUND !! No one likes a nosey rosy !! But check to see if he keeps a particular news paper, magazine, etc. laying around . He will feel really special knowing that you noticed such a small detail . BONUS FOR YOU: if you collect Coca-Cola Rewards you may even be able to get a subscription for FREE !!! If  a traveler has your heart may I recommend Conde Nasts, Traveler magazine .

FOOD. Food is always a good idea !- I have never had a guy decline an invitation to a meal....even when it was just left overs . Guys love to eat . It is something in their DNA . I joke with one of my besties that her man is a mini pony he can eat so much . To put it in terms you can better understand......food is their version of flowers !  Cook him dinner , take him to his favorite sports bar , or even more amazing have his lunch delivered to him one day at work . It will be a break to the monotony of his normal lunch and a awesome surprise . It seems these days there are tons of wing places and sandwich shops that deliver so it doesn't have to be just pizza .  BONUS POINTS : You deliver the food and have lunch with him . I can see you now with your picnic basket in tow .

OUTDOORSY GUY - Maybe your man is not really the kind to sit through a entire ball game or have a subscription to a magazine . Maybe yours is more of the , "lets explore the great out doors" kind . Plan a fun fishing , hiking or hunting trip for him and his buddies .  Most states have a parks and rec link on their state web site with information about when , where , and how for these kinds of things . Men love weekends where they don't have shower or shave and get to be all primal.....or so I am told . I have one guy friend that I am pretty sure if he can't set something on fire , trap an animal , or cut down a tree at least every couple of weeks , he may die .

I HEART NERDS - Maybe a intellectual has your heart , I would point back to the idea of a magazine subscription . Something specific to his point of  interest . There is basically a magazine for everyone now . I would also suggest a good book , debate or documentary screening . If you aren't sure just yet of what book might be best then a gift card to http://www.barnesandnoble.com/ or your local book store would be amazing too . Then he can pick out exactly what he wants and you don't have to worry about returns . Also , if you live in a college town there are often bonus lectures given by guest or tenured professors that don't require enrolment to attend .  BONUS POINTS: Attend a lecture or documentary with him . Again, it isn't about absolutely loving ALL of the same things . It is about making and taking time for one another in whatever way you can . The more you spend time with someone learning about their interest the more you learn about them and why these things interest them .

DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE - It is easy in all holidays to get a little self-centered and wrapped up in thoughts of our own gratification . Why not take some time as a couple to do something for someone else this Valentines ? Do you know a single parent ? Or perhaps a set of parents that are extremely over extended ? Why not offer to baby sit so that they can have a special night out ? Or cook/buy them dinner and have it delivered to their home . I am confident any mother/wife will appreciate that 100% !! Maybe there is/are a singleton(s) in your group of friends , how about making it a group game night ?! Valentines can be especially hard on those wishing for love and a group event where they don't have to feel so isolated may really be the thing that makes the day bearable . Taking part in such unselfish activities can be a bonding experience for a couple . It helps you to see the true heart of the one you are investing all this time and emotion into.....(in my humble opinion , but what do I know #singleandlovin'it) . Again , it shouldn't be about what you are doing or getting , but rather who you are getting to spend your time with .

This is literally the picture in my head as I wrote that last sentence .

My list could go on and on with ideas, but in an effort to not repeat myself I will send you back to Sunday's blog post "boyfriends & husbands"  for more Valentines ideas . At the core of it all it should really just be about taking a moment to think about the other person . What might be right for your man may not be right for someone else's . I hope that this small list gets you inspired and sets of your creativity . May this be your best Valentines Day yet !!

Re-Post ~ Boyfriends & Husbands ~ Valentines 2014

In honor of Valentines Day one of my goals this week is to dedicate my FB status' , Instagrams', and Blog posts to LOVE !!! Perhaps in the form of "advice", entertaining stories (that will involve people who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent....and idiotic) and ideas for those of you that struggle with this "holiday" in one way or another .

This post in particular goes out to the boyfriends and husbands of my besties ! As you can read HERE there are a awful lot of special ladies in my life that I am privileged enough to call sister/bestie . With that said I tend to expect a lot of the men who attempt to or who have won the hearts of these women . Even though I expect a lot , I also know these guys aren't mind readers , nor do they enjoy spending endless hours shopping just to end up with a box of candy . So, to all my besties reading this post , just leave it up on your computer "accidentally" so your fella can read it . :-)

The thing that most guys tend to miss about special occasions such as Valentines is that it isn't about the money you spent , but rather the time and thought you gave to an item or event . (Side Note: Fellas if the lady you are dating cares more about the money than the thought ,  then you may need to reevaluate your lady. #justsayin') . I say it ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the time , but it really is the thought that counts . Guys , knowing that you took the time to think about what might bring a smile to our face or make us feel especially special tends to turn us all ooey gooey (i.e. thoughtfulness = we wanna kiss your face !!!) . Here are a few ideas to perhaps help you or inspire as you think , preplan , prepare , and execute your Valentines Day ! I will also add some links to further help you as you plan .

(In all my posts you can click on any of the red highlighted links to
see other related posts from myself , fellow bloggers and to
go directly to businesses/deals I am bragging on. )

(This should be common sense , but these are all activities to do minus your children . While there is no question your baby momma loves them babies.....a real romantic night is sans wee ones .) #truthtellin'

SPA DAY - It is a go-to slam dunk !! I honestly do not know one friend that wouldn't love a mani , pedi , massage , facial or all of the above . BONUS POINTS : You join her . (Side Note: Couple Massages are for married folks . #don't be sleazy) . Back in the day when I had money for such things my favorite massage place was Natural Body Spa and Shop .

High Quality Spa Services, Beautiful Environment

DINNER & MOVIE - O.k. You are thinking that this is a normal weekend date night idea . You are wrong . Hang a sheet on a wall , get out a projector (some libraries let you rent them if you don't own one) , hook it up to your lap top or dvd player , gather pillows, blankets , and either 1. her favorite take out or 2. (bonus points) you cook dinner and BAM it's "drive-in" movie night . Weather permitting it is also a fun outside idea !! You can reserve a DVD online for under 2 bucks at RedBox , after you reserve all that's left to do is pick it up !!

FLOWERS - Why do women like getting flowers so much ? They're just gonna die anyway , right ? ANSWER : Again , I go back to the thought . The gift of sending flowers to her at work or at her home is yet another way of letting her know she is on your mind . It truly doesn't matter if it is roses or hand picked daisy's we simply love knowing that in the midst of whatever else your day holds , there was a moment you spent thinking of us . Here is a link to FTD one of the most trusted flower delivery services - FTD .

The Sweet Surprises® Bouquet by FTD® - VASE INCLUDED- Deluxe

CANDY - O.K. This one honestly is risky . Every girl I know is on a diet or work out plan of some sort . So, this takes really knowing your lady . Some girls will break the diet to enjoy the fun candy for one night or it will sit on the counter and ruin . Don't waste dollars just because you think it is a "safe buy" . Be sure your girl isn't on a all liquid diet or something crazy before you make this one a part of your Valentine plan . If she is a candy girl then you should know that FTD also does candy delivery or there is Russell Stover and Dylans Candy Bar . If she is on a health kick but still has a sweet tooth you could do Edible Arrangements . I just had a friend brag on her bf via instagram for one of these .

MORE SPARKLE THAN A DIAMOND - Name a star after her !! I know it is almost the cheesiest thing you could do, but I swear when she looks up at the sky she will think of you ! And yes, this is actually a thing . Since I have not done this myself I do not have a registry to recommend from personal experience . But I am sure it can be googled and give you multiple sites to compare with .

JEWELRY - If you aren't ready to get her a diamond then may I recommend something just as wonderful , Stella and Dot . Stella and Dot offer so many choices there will surely be something that suits your lady's style !! The links in this post will direct you to my friend Lieslel who is a Stella and Dot consultant . If you have questions on shipping , cost , availability etc. she will be able to guide you . If you aren't ready to make a jewelry purchase of any kind than you can check my previous post , HERE for other items such as bags, cooking supplies , etc. All the ladies in that post I personally recommend and trust as a consultant and sales person for their specific items !

SWEET MIX TAPE - Yes, a very 80's type of gift, but a rockin' one at that . I posted HERE about how you can download some free tunes . If you go the mix tape route then let me recommend adding Tyler Hilton's "I belong" and "Next to You" . I think everyone loves a mix tape !! She can down loaded to her computer , ipod and keep it with her in the car !!

DINNER & A SHOW - Out on the Town - Reservations ! Take her to a place that takes reservations . Why ? When you walk up to the hostess , tell her your name , and are lead to a table it does what ?? Shows your girl you took the time ahead of time to pre plan and again....were thinking of her even when you weren't with her . You can also pre-purchase movie tickets at Fandango . Or if your girl is more of a theater/symphony buff you can google your local or nearest venue . If you are near or going to be around the Knoxville area you can check out - http://www.tennesseetheatre.com/ .

SEE THE SIGHTS - Every city I have lived in has or is near something that is unique , beautiful and worth a visit to . My "go-to", go to's would be places like museums , distillery's (yes, some girls like knowing exactly how Jack Daniels is made...if this is your girl you should probably go ahead and put a ring on it) , the symphony , or unique architecture/earthly wonders (i.e. Chattanooga's walking bridge - every city doesn't have that , the natural bridge in VA - if your lady is outdoorsy this is a good one, Seattle's Space Needle) the list could go on and on . Just do a little online or word of mouth research for where you live . You know best what interests your girl so the key is to adapt your trips/walks/ around that . Here are a few links to help you with ideas , details etc . Hunter Museum , Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokeys , Jack Daniels ,&  Nashville Preds - Hockey .

OUT OF THE BOX - I have many "couple friends" and most of them are amazing at out of the box date nights . Out of the box is going to be a term that can only be defined by you . What is considered out of the box to one couple may be the norm for another . However , I consider these to be not the normal Friday night date - Wine Tasting & Painting (some winery's offer a class with the tour of their facilities such as painting, cooking, etc . I have had several friends do the Gatlinburg Wine Tour and loved it . Here is a link to Rocky Top Winery & Mountain Valley Winery I believe both are apart of the tour, or at least once were . Cooking Class - I can not help but think that cooking together is one of the most fun things a couple can do together . Especially if it isn't surrounded by children screaming for food or the pressure of hosting a dinner . Just the two of you , learning a new dish and meeting other couples . It seems like couples enjoy meeting other couples for the same fact singles enjoy knowing other singles , when we share our life experiences with someone else who is going through the same thing , it helps us feel a little less crazy and a little more normal . Here are just a few more "Out of the Box" ideas .  Paint your own pottery , a dance class , a night at the gym (yes working out together can be a fun date) , or something I have on my bucket list is shooting . (NRA haters can just scroll past this part) I may be 100% wrong, but I think taking a girl to a gun range can be such a fun date !!! EVERY ONE of my single girl friends site "manliness" or "ruggedness" as a important quality in a guy . And there is nothing more manly (in my humble opinion) than a guy who can not only protect you , but can show you how to protect yourself .

O.K. I know that has been a lot for you to digest , but I hope that it helps you to get the inspiration and pre-planning going . I know that some of this is more couple focused , but quiet a few of the ideas above would also make for great group dates if you are just starting to get to know someone . I hope as the week goes on to add group date , singletons , as well as a few other ideas to the blog . Stay tuned . Happy Valentines to you all !!!
