~ New Music Monday ~ February 13th, 2017 ~ Grammy Recap ~
~ Hillary Scott & The Scott Family ~
As I mentioned on Instagram, this weeks #NMM will come in three separate shots. The first is already posted, "A Valentine from a Slow Heart" and it is our regularly scheduled New Music Monday. Today, this post, is our special Grammy 2017 recap. Wednesday will be our Writers Wednesday post. This week is a busy week for The Faith Journals so, lets get to it......
I wanna start my Grammy recap with where else, but the Red Carpet. I LOVE that Brothers Osborne had their mother as one of the members of their posy for the night. Also included was Jons significant other and fellow artist, Lucy Silvas who did some live streaming via Instagram from the Red Carpet. A lot of artists will live stream or have someone live streaming for them at events like these and it is totally worth following them if even just for the one night. Though I'm unsure why you'd follow someone you're a fan of just for a evening, LoL!!! Anyway, the guys didn't take home gold, but I think they are winners because they stocked their entourage with family. Call me cheesy, but I would think that this one of the coolest parts of all that is show biz. Getting to share it with people who have helped get you to the big time.
Speaking of family, Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum and her family, The Scott Family, won TWO Grammy's before the live broad cast. With my pre-grammy predictions I got some write and I got some wrong, but this one I should've put some money down on. I LOVE "Thy Will" and am glad to see this project get attention and awards.
Another bet I should have made was for Best Country Album which went to my predicted winner, Sturgill Simpson. This is another award handed out pre-telecast, but I am stoked none the less. I totally think that "A Sailors Guide to Earth" deserved this acknowledgement of a nomination and a win. Hopefully country music specific award shows and radio will start paying a little bit more attention to Simpson now that he owns some gold.

Best Country Solo Performance went to Maren Morris and it is a category I predicted wrong in. My guess was that Miranda Lambert would take this one simply due to status, but I am SUPER AMPED that it was Maren. I feel like she totally deserved it. On top of her win she gave us a stellar performance of "Once" from "Hero" with Alicia Keys. "Once" is one of my most favorite tracks from the album, I know I say that a lot, but I really mean it this time. I love the entirety of "Hero", but "Once" has stuck out from the beginning for me. Maren and Alicia nailed it, of course. I give props to Maren for having to perform after a win at the biggest night in music. I can NOT imagine how her nerves must have been, but her performance didn't show it. Also, sister SSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD in her Red Carpet, Performance, and Post Fashion. For her performance look she went with a sparkly, deep V'd, Winged body suit and girl weeerrrrrkkkkkeeed it!!!!! Not everyone could pull this off and not every new artist would even try, but girl owned it!!! I love it!!! She is giving new meanings to "Hero".

My other misses on predictions were "Best New Artist", I had predicted that Kelsea Ballerini would take this one. She has had such a big year it just felt like a obvious choice, but Chance the Rapper won this category along with several others. I predicted "Best Duo/Group Pop" would go to The Chain Smokers, but it went to 21 Pilots, who by the way, accepted their awards in their underwear. It was a cute story as to the why, but IDK, I just don't wanna see folks under roo's. Best Rock went to Bowie and my original hope was Jack White, but I ain't mad about Bowie winning with "Black Star". It feels like a fitting tribute to his last album. Best Duo/Group Country went to Dolly Parton and Pentatonix for their remix of "Jolene". I had hoped Brothers Osborne would win, but as I mentioned earlier, the fact they took family with them to the big show makes them winners in my book. Best "Country Song" went to Lorie McKenna for "Humble and Kind" performed by Tim McGraw. She won best song at the CMA's so I am not surprised to see her take this category though I kinda thought Thomas Rett's, "Die a Happy Man" would win. For Best Country Album I had predicted that Brandy Clark would win, but I also had hopes of Sturgill winning. Both are what I would consider underdogs in the sense that radio does not play them like they do other more "popular" or "trendy" artists. I am stoked that Sturgill took the win on this one. I'm o.k. with having predicted wrong on this one, LoL!!
"Best Pop Vocal Album", "Song of the Year", "Best Album of the Year", "Record of the Year", "Best Pop Solo Performance", all went to Adele and her album, "25" and the chart topping, record breaking single, "Hello". This is no big surprise as Adele has totally dominated this year with this release.
Adele also opened the show and did a dedication performance in memoriam of George Michael. A performance that a few bars in she stopped, apologized, swore and had the band start over. She stated that she couldn't do anything less than her best for Michael and that with the sound she wasn't just going to let it be. She apologized again in one of her acceptance speeches, but I think that everyone in the room totally understood the redo and respected the risk it was to ask for one. Adele had sound issues at last years Grammy's so I presume she took it to heart that she wouldn't allow it to happen again. Especially on such an important performance to her. Also, in her acceptance speech for the last award of the night, "Record of the Year", Adele shared that she felt the award should've gone to Beyoncé, someone she considers one of her idols. Beyoncé watching from the audience had tears rolling down her face and mouthed back, "I Love You". In the midst of all the excitement Adele accidentally broke her Grammy statue, LoL!!!! Immediately my mind went to Mean Girls when Kady breaks her tiara into pieces and hands it out to other students. In my mind Adele started tossing pieces of the statue to Beyoncé and Jay.

Adele - "Hello" fr "25"
Live at the 59th Annual Grammy's
Last but not least, performances, as mentioned Adele opened the show with "Hello" and nailed it. I truly expect nothing less than excellence from her. I think everyone else does too and that is part of what made her restart on the George Michael tribute so understandable. Also already mentioned Maren Morris and Alicia Keys performance of "Once" from Maren's album "Hero". I loved their collaboration on CMT Crossroads so I was particularly amped to see what their Grammy performance would be like. They did not disappoint!!!! One of the best performances of the night in my opinion and I'm not just saying that cause I'm a Maren Fan. Folks in the East Tennessee region, Maren will be bringing her headlining tour, "Hero Tour", to Knoxville and the Bijou Theater THIS Thursday. The show is of course sold out, but you can sign up via the Bijou ticket page for an alert if any tickets become available.

Katy Perry - "Chained to the Rhythm "
Live at the 59th Annual Grammy's
I very well may be the only one who feels this way and that is totally fine, but award shows, for me, are not the place to get political. I am watching to relieve my mind of the stress and worry that seems constant in today's world. It seemed at the SAG awards presenters and winners all had something political to say. They couldn't stand to be at that mic and not give their two cents on the current political landscape. Miss Perry chose to use last nights performance of her new single, "Chained to the Rhythm", to do the same. She wore a "persist" arm band as apart of her performance costume. Perry was a very vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton in the election so, I am zero surprised by her continuance of her political symbolism.
Per usual the night was filled with some expected moments as well as a few unexpected moments. Leave it to a room full of artists to keep you on your toes. James Cordon hosted and I think he did an amazing job. He is one of my favorite talk show folks right now and I'm unsure how he could've gone wrong in his hosting duties last night. He even brought his folks into the gig and it was for sure a hilarious happening. I LOVE when family is willing to take part in your madness, LoL!!!
James Corden and His Parents
58th Annual Grammy Awards
All in all, great show this go 'round and now onto the next. It was announced that Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley will return to their hosting duties at the ACM awards in April. Performers for Party for a Cause are already getting announced so it is just a matter of time before we get more details about the awards show. Until then, I suggest you download some of the Grammy winners. Remember when I was all, "hey you need to download Sturgill Simpson album, "A Sailors Guide to Earth" and Maren Morris', "Hero" before the Grammy's b/c you're gonna wanna say you were a fan before they take home gold.". Yeah, maybe next time....you'll listen to me, "how 'bout datt??!!", LoL!!!
